Where to Play Cards? Sahara Casino Poker Room – Las Vegas, Nevada

Sahara Casino in Las Vegas via the 1950s

Sahara Casino in Las Vegas via the 1950s

While the Sahara Hotel and Casino might not be the newest or hottest place on the Strip but the poker room is a golden nugget. With huge crowds at the 7:00pm including quality players and a free dinner if you make first hour. I’ve won a couple times here over the last few years and it has been nothing but a blast.

The same dealers are always there and know what is going on (please tip them well). The 7pm and 11pm tournament cost $45 for 3,000 chips and you can do an additional buy in over first hour for $15 for an extra 2,000 chips. Don’t quote me on the addition buy but it’s something close to that.

The poker room is in a quiet corner of the casino with 15 tables for action. They also have some lower limit poker games going which you will find yourself waiting for on the weekends. There is a bad beat jackpot which is paid out to all the players in the room if it is hit. I really like some of the managers that run the room here and not so much a few other ones.

Where to Eat in Orange County? Eat Chow on Newport Blvd.

1802 Newport Blvd Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (949) 650-2469

1802 Newport Blvd Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (949) 650-2469

My friends live just down the street and invited me to dine here the other evening. I assumed this was a Chinese place or something of that nature upon arrival but got my hands on the menu and quickly got intrigued.

I opted for parking in the lot across the street without any problems (my car wasn’t towed, gone, broken into, or set on fire) so I deem that a great place to park it when you get hungry.

Now for my meal I selected the Grilled Cheese Burger which doesn’t sound as fantastic as it was in person. It’s literally two Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with a hamburger in the middle of it. It was pretty mind blowing and fantastic although I could only eat half of it. The thing was fantastic and worthy of ordering just to look at. We had some great appetizers as well for the table.

It is strange that the whole place has glass windows on the inside so you can watch people shop at The Closet. I am not familiar with the store and sadly it was closed but I am guessing the people stalking while eating your double grilled cheese hamburger would be a bonus.

Where to Stay in Las Vegas? – Hilton Hotel & Casino

Hilton Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada

Hilton Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada

I stayed here for the first time over the weekend since they were running one of the best deals in Vegas. This is normally rare I’ve found over a few years with this hotel since they seem to book well due to the location near the convention center.
I was familiar with the hotel before staying here for the first time. I love the buffet and the gambling area isn’t too shabby. The sports betting is a great place to have some fun and watch the games over the weekend.

Now with my hotel room I became quickly unimpressed with the hotel sadly. Once I arrived they checked me in and I was off to the north tower. Once inside I wanted to place a wake up call but nobody ever picked up……

The room had a nice makeover but it was missing parts like the gear cover to our door. Then moving to the bathroom the bath was chipped all over the place and lacking paint on about 15% of it. Getting in around 2:00am we went on a hunt for a quick drink before we headed back to bed and couldn’t figure out how to get one……

All and all book the Hilton for pure convenience or a Star Trek wedding. If your stuck at the convention center for a huge convention (like SEMA) where the taxi line has more people in it than all the Strip Clubs in Clark County you will be glad you picked the Hilton Hotel. If you want luxury feeling or any kind of service you should look elsewhere.

Where to Eat in Miami Beach? Pizza Rustica on Washington Ave.

Pizza Rustica South Beach - 863 Washington Ave Miami Beach, FL 33139 (305) 674-8244

Pizza Rustica South Beach - 863 Washington Ave Miami Beach, FL 33139 (305) 674-8244

This place is a must stop for me every time I come to Miami Beach. I prefer this one since it’s the original location and love to just order more food than I could ever eat and hope for the best. Once you cram into this New York sized place you will be greeted by a glass display full of pizza. Huge square sicilian style pizza ready for your order. A friend and myself ordered a Hawaiian slice, Pepperoni, and Sweet Sausage.

Three slices and drinks out the door for under $20 (which could feed three easily) and we sat down enjoying ourselves and people watching in the crazy part of South Beach. Each slice of pizza was top shelf as always which is a combo including minimal sauce and a ton of dough. It’s an interesting approach for pizza and it works, Pizza Rustica knocks it out of the park.

While eating someone spotted us for non locals and picked up that we could never finish these four huge slices among us. We brokered a deal to sell two squares for $1.00 so this man wouldn’t have to “wait in the long line he claimed” and we were happy to receive some return on our pizza investment. My buddy wanted to hang out and sell the rest of our leftover pizza but I was ready to check in to our hotel at this point. Our left over pizza didn’t make it to the trash can outside as a homeless person asked if he could finish it. Mission accomplished, we ate amazing pizza, people watched in South Beach, made a return on our pizzainvestment and fed the homeless all in twenty minutes.

No where else are you going to find this kind of silly entertainment while gorging yourself in delicious pizza. A+ for atmosphere, location, and taste by me. The only issue your going to run into is PARKING. Especially if it’s a weekend night note that this is a huge post night club scene here. This is the South Beach fourth meal (not Taco Bell) and things can get a little crazy. If your flying in for some food and Washington has no street parking my approach is always to go one block over onto Pennsylvania and park in the residential permit parking (illegally) and hope people take pity on me with my rental car decals! Even though parking will be a battle you will realize it was worth every moment of frustration when you step inside.

Where to Eat in New York City? Cafe Habana for Fantastic Cuban Food

Cafe Habana 17 Prince St New York, NY 10012 (212) 625-2002

Cafe Habana 17 Prince St New York, NY 10012 (212) 625-2002

Let me get the few small downsides out of the way so we can relish on how awesome this place is. You are going to wait 30-45 minutes to sit down and eat so be ready. You will also sit at a table that won’t fit your plates. It will feel like your eating with the two couples on either side of you but your not, so don’t try stealing their food for samples.

Order the Grilled Corn Mexican style. I don’t care if you hate corn (like me) you will die for this stuff. I was talked into eating some and didn’t regret one bite I took of this stuff.

For my meal I scored a cuban sandwich that was spot on. New York isn’t a place you expect to taste some delicious Cuban treats but they have it. Some other pluses here are they have the cutest and sweetest servers I have found anywhere in Soho. Along with all this place has to offer it has great value for it’s price. If your in Soho with a craving this place is a MUST stop.

Where to Eat in Atlanta, Georgia? Fat Matt’s Rib Shack

Fat Matt's Rib Shack - 1811 Piedmont Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30324 - (404) 607-1622

Fat Matt's Rib Shack - 1811 Piedmont Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30324 - (404) 607-1622

After having my friend Kelly yelling at me for months upon months I finally decided to visit Fat Matt’s and I didn’t even go with her, haha. The one thing was the line was very long (it was worth the wait) but they seemed to have no system for a long line and I would assume it’s like that quite often. I was wedged in line between the front door/porch door/people trying to leave and kept getting body checked in every direction, haha. As for the food, it was amazing and I cannot wait to go back and try more. It has this very authentic southern BBQ feel, the place is quaint and homely and I loved the outdoor dining area as well.

Parking is not the best right where the area is it but you can make it work it seems, just a little bit of patience. The menu is very simple and straight to the point which I love and is very much how every dining establishment should look to serve you, a blatant quick easy to read menu with a few specialty items. If you don’t like meat then don’t bother coming in here.

2010 Camaro SS at San Onofre State Beach, California

So yesterday you saw our route we rolled the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS around Southern California. In case you missed it “2010 Camaro SS – Sunday Drive [PREVIEW]” highlights our route we took in the new modern muscle car. Chevrolet answered everyone’s prayers by bringing back the muscle car so many people grew up to love with the Chevy emblem.

The San Onofre State Beach is a great remote place wedged north of Oceanside and south of San Clemente. It’s full of people in old VW vans and surfers with a romantic date vibe. Sadly for you “free” people of California the nude beach part of the park has been closed down as of mid 2008. So the place has become a little more family safe. If your driving on Highway 5 with your loved on or on vacation this is a great place to stop and really appreciate the California sunset if you have a chance.

Weaving around San Diego and cruising on Highway 5 the 2010 Camaro SS really comes into it’s own. While I don’t picture this thing as a beach cruiser off the bat it really fit into it’s own. While no 50’s style drag race broke out with any greasers and flagger girls in San Diego I really felt the car fit the atmosphere. When we stopped to take these photos I couldn’t tell you how many people stopped to inquire about the car.

A car comfortable enough your grandfather could take it on a road trip without complaining about his back but aggressive enough when you lay in the throttle to make a sub five second o-60mph. Our 6.2-liter LS3 V8 was matted to a 6 speed transmission which makes 422hp. If your looking for a refined muscle car that can handle some traffic but with a blip of the throttle throw your head back into the seat then this is your vehicle. Stay tuned as we keep you updated on our journey with the 2010 Camaro SS!

Where to stay in Louisville, Kentucky? Galt House Hotel & Suites

Louisville, Kentucky Skyline - Galt House Hotel

Louisville, Kentucky Skyline - Galt House Hotel

This place has a great location in the downtown area and some amazingly large suites but the place has some serious problems. First off, the deli has no real candy (I wanted a Snickers at 4am) and the lady looked at me like I was nuts so I ate some homemade cookie. At least let’s carry some normal stuff.

The hotel room is huge in size but mostly for no reason and our room was kind of falling apart. The shower door fell apart and the room has tons of random closets that were super strange. The plumbing was pretty sketch and the whole hotel has a strange old vibe.

The front desk people just seem to be confused by requests or why you would want to talk to them. The night manager told me I had to talk to his boss on what should of been a super simple task. All in all I would come back but I would price shop around the waterfront area first.

Where to Stay in Las Vegas? – The Venetian Hotel

The Venetian Hotel and Casino - Las Vegas, Nevada

The Venetian Hotel and Casino - Las Vegas, Nevada

After staying here for a week I feel like I got a great lay for the land. When it comes to the higher end hotels on the Las Vegas Strip this one is at the top of my list. The suites come with a bedroom section that has it’s own television and a feeling of privacy from the sunken living room.

The living room has a flat screen television along with a nice table to get that “work you promised your boss” you would do while on the road. The couch is a huge sectional and pretty comfortable for your “club randoms” to crash on at night. Great huge bathroom and an overall quality in your suite will leave you sleeping fantastically every night.

My female friend was very disappointed that in November the pool was pretty much cast in shadows all day which really seems like a design error. Clearly the pool area was designed by men if they didn’t think woman would want to bask in the sun all day.

Another bonus is your attached to the Palazzo Hotel which has some great dining/shopping options. It also doubles your indoor gambling space without having to endure the evil Vegas sun. If you are brave enough to walk outside you have a pretty central location on the Strip making it a quick stumble to anywhere you really want to get or a cheap cab.

Bring some cash if your going to gamble at the Venetian since you will run into some of the higher staked tables on the Strip as well. Parking structure is always crowded but the amount of security leaves me feeling better about leaving the car inside the deck than most places.

The best kept secret at  the Venetian is the Grand Lux Cafe. It is the best valued place to eat on the Strip if you want good food at less than $15 a plate, here is my review:
